We loaded the containers onto the trailer and moved them out of the way. FYI, you’re only going to see Herb in these photos, but I did contribute more than just taking pictures!

We needed a bigger home!!!

We laid the hog fence panel down where the cluster of containers had previously been (you can barely see it in this picture) to get a rough idea of where the bed was going to go. We orientated the bed so the length was facing south. We put the trellis on the north side of the bed. This way, when the climbing plants fill the trellis, they won’t shade the shorter plants in the afternoon. The spot has been chosen as the center of our yard is the only area on our property that gets all day sun.

On May 29, 2016, we started our beginner’s garden by planting banana pepper’s, bell peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and strawberries in galvanized tubs. Seems legit…

A few weeks later, we added carrots, beans, and peas from seed in three separate boxes. However, it soon became clear the containers weren’t going to be enough for our plants. We searched online for ideas for raised beds and came across a YouTube Channel created by a lovely Virginia Couple. After Watching several videos by Hollis and Nancy Palmer, we decided to build the following raised bed and trellis. If you’re at interested in gardening, we highly recommend watching this couple. Even if you’re experienced, I guarantee you’ll learn something: Hollis and Nancy’s Homestead
